If you want to make your own soda at home — or your own sparkling water for that matter — but you don’t want to store your beverage in plastic, are you out of luck? A quick cruise on Amazon or Best Buy might have you thinking you have no options, but that’s simply not the case in 2024.
Today’s SodaStreams and soda makers use glass bottles, and some even use stainless steel, for those of us who prefer to drink out of food-quality metal. Stainless isn’t as popular as glass, which isn’t as popular as plastic, but options do exist. You might have to go aftermarket and spend a bit more than you’d like, but the bottles will last practically forever.
But who uses stainless steel bottles? Does SodaStream or Aarke make one?
Short answer: No, those major soda water makers don’t sell a stainless bottle, but that doesn’t mean you are out of luck!
Philips GoZero Soda Maker
While Philips isn’t known (in the USA) for their soda water makers, they are popular in Europe and Australia, and their GoZero machine does have a 1 liter stainless steel bottle available as an alternative to the standard plastic (PET) bottle you’d typically find. This bottle is only sold in Europe, but if you are in the US and you are happy to get this soda maker, you should be able to track down a bottle.
If you are having trouble tracking it down, it’s known as the GoZero Soda maker cabornating bottle (model number ADD917SST/79) and it has an MSRP of $40. You can learn more on Philips’ site.
Sunshine Land Stainless Steel Bottle
Sunshine Land — we haven’t heard of them either — does make a steel bottle which is compatible with a range of Sodastreams, including the Fizzi, Terra, Power, and Art. Reviews are generally good, though some people have noted that the bottles are not as universal for all Sodastreams as Sunshine Land makes it seem. This bottle will not work with the Aqua Fizz, Source, Jet, Dynamo, or Genesis Sodastreams.
You can find this bottle on Amazon for $25.
Other alternatives for after-market stainless steel Sodastream upgrade bottles are the Mate of Steel and Drinkmate 1L. Like most of the stainless steel water bottles on the market, these seem to be fairly generic bottles that are made to be compatible with the threading found on most (but far from all) soda makers. These bottles typically sell for $30 to $60 and are all BPA-free and made of food-grade stainless steel.
So, in summary, the number of stainless steel bottles for soda water makers is really quite limited. If you want a non-plastic bottle for your home sparkling water makers, we’d recommend you go with glass.
